Award Winning Film Producer

That's the title I'm claiming for right now! Confused? Read on...

For those of you who don't know, for the past year and a half or so, I have been working at a microbiology lab, Nelson Laboratories.

Each year, the company has a film festival in which employees are encouraged to create short films related (somewhat) to work. The films are then shown to the entire company and voted on.

It's a lot of fun and a great way to have fun with work. About 6 months ago or so, I got the inspiration for a potentially entertaining song. After I had most of the song written and recorded, I heard announcements calling for entries for the 2009 NLI Film Festival.

"Music Video" came to mind instantly, and I had no choice but to bring the creation to life.

So, the Film Festival came last week and my film was a hit. I was awarded one of the "Best Film" awards and was a runner up for "Best Performance" and "Most Original".

It was a lot of fun to do and I hope you enjoy it.

P.S. In case you couldn't tell from the movie posters, it's called "The Smell of Science."

They also asked each section in the company to create a short "commercial" about their section. So for those of you interested in a quick preview of what my job entails as part of the Hospital Reprocessing Section, I've included the commercial I made as well. Enjoy!!

Our Neighborhood Ice Cream Man

We live right next to West Jordan Park. It is so fun to have such a large and beautiful park as our back yard. However, one of the things that we do have to put up with is the Ice Cream Truck.

With the weather warming up, we often get treated with his wonderful "music" !?! (I must say that our ice cream man has the most interesting sound track I have ever heard.) I try to tune it out as much as possible but every once in a while a random song will catch my attention.

For example, a couple of weeks ago he was playing Jingle Bells! Ya, don't ask. I have no idea why he was playing Jingle Bells in the middle of May. I even heard Happy Birthday not too long ago.

Well. last Saturday morning, I heard Daniel yell from the den, "Ashley... Ashley, come here! Quick!!" I ran in there as fast as I could and he said, "Sshhh... Do you hear that? Is that a hymn?" The tune sounded familiar and I responded, "Yes, I think it is. But I'm not sure which one."

Sure enough, that next day in sacrament meeting we sang as our closing hymn "Lord Dismiss Us With Thy Blessing." The ice cream man song!!! (Actually, we couldn't really sing it because we were busy laughing!)
